20th Anniversary of Cardiology Centre and Cardiac Catheterization & Intervention Centre

With the establishment of HKSH Cardiology Centre and HKSH Cardiac Catheterization & Intervention Centre in 2004, Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital (HKSH) is the first private hospital in Hong Kong to provide integrated cardiology services. From prevention to intervention, our professional medical team is committed to providing a comprehensive range of patient-centred services.  In celebration of the 20th Anniversary, both Centres held an oration and dinner at the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine on 15 November 2024. It featured a presentation entitled “Balloons, Stents, Valves, Photon-counting CT, Artificial Intelligence: Where Does Cardiology Go From Here?” by Prof. Alan C. YEUNG, MD, Li Ka Shing Professor in Cardiology at Stanford University School of Medicine, sharing the evolution of various cardiac treatment approaches and new technologies.

Thanks to donation of HK$20 million from the Li Ka Shing Foundation (the Foundation), the HKSH Cardiology Centre (the Centre) jointly launched the Transcatheter Cardiovascular Interventions Subsidy Scheme (the Scheme) with the Foundation in mid-2018. The Scheme sets out to provide financial assistance to patients in need of coronary stenting procedures, Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI), Transcatheter Mitral/Tricuspid Valve Repair (Clip), and Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion (LAAO). Over 100 patients have benefitted from the subsidies under the Scheme. In February 2022, the Foundation donated another HK$10 million to HKSH for referrals from the Hospital Authority during the COVID-19 pandemic, with the Centre serving a total of 24 public patients in a month.

With a donation of HK$5 million from the Chau Hoi Shuen Foundation, the Centre also launched the Women’s Heart Health Subsidy Scheme in 2023 to subsidise female patients to undergo cardiac examinations and, if necessary, coronary stenting procedures.
