Dementia is not a normal part of ageing. The early deterioration in cognitive function – usually of a chronic or progressive nature – is sometimes overlooked resulting in delayed diagnosis and care. Dr. Amy Fung, Deputy Director of Clinical Health Psychology Centre of the Hospital, shared her personal journey in taking care of her dementing mother. As a clinical health psychologist, Dr. Fung has no immunity to the challenges and difficulties facing many other caregivers of dementia. Yet her professional knowledge enables her to analyse the situation and deploy care strategies. She hopes to encourage fellow caregivers that there is always hope when there is love.
