Public - Private Interface Electronic Radiological Records Sharing Pilot Project - First in HK

With the ground-breaking "Public - Private Interface - Electronic Radiological Records Sharing Pilot Project", Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital ("HKSH") can now transfer patients' data to the Hospital Authority's (HA) Electronic Patient Records (ePR) System for authorized viewing at HA hospitals.

Starting from 2 January 2009, this project is the very first collaboration of its kind between a local private hospital and the HA hospitals. With approval from patients, radiological records will be transferred electronically from our Department of Diagnostic & Interventional Radiology to the HA's ePR System. The data can be viewed online by authorized medical personnel at the HA hospitals. As data are transmitted and shared almost instantly, continuity of care is greatly enhanced to facilitate early diagnosis and treatment.

When an appointment for examinations is confirmed, a HA-issued referral form will be faxed to HKSH. It contains a patient-specific barcode with the patient's name, date of birth, sex and HKID for identity verification. Patients are requested to sign a Consent Form, acknowledging the Hospital's explanation and their authorization of the data transfer. Stringent measures are employed by both sides to prevent any unwarranted disclosure, loss and leakage of patient data. To prevent information leakage, access to radiological records is only given to the personnel with proper authorization. No data will be transmitted without the patient's consent.

For enquiries, please contact the Department of Diagnostic & Interventional Radiology at 2835-8900 during office hours. Address: 1/F, Li Shu Pui Block, Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital, 2 Village Road, Happy Valley, Hong Kong.
