Manual Hyperinflation technique (MHI) & Ventilator Hyperinflation technique (VHI)
Manual Hyperinflation (MHI) & Ventilator Hyperinflation (VHI) are manual driven and ventilator driven chest physiotherapy techniques. They are used by physiotherapists for improving chest expansion and sputum removal in ventilated patients. A deep inspiration following by a quick expiration was introduced with these techniques. The effectiveness of these techniques in removing sputum and reversed atelectasis in ventilated patients were well proved by research studies. They also increase the successful rate in extubation so as to wean off the ventilator.
